Handel, Parry and Elgar

24 June 2023

Much loved music by Handel, Parry, and Elgar got an appreciative response from the large audience at the Salisbury Musical Society concert on June 24th in the Cathedral. The choir and Salisbury Symphony Orchestra (leader Rosamund Bromley) were on very good form under the direction of John Challenger. Clear diction and good intonation from the choir, and precise playing by the orchestra.
Zadok the Priest and I Was Glad were especially well performed. The bass solo in Elgar’s Great is The Lord was beautifully sung by Richard Hooper, with great musicality.
This programme was planned to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 70th anniversary of her Coronation, but due to the lockdown it had to be postponed. However, it was very pertinent to King Charles’s Coronation, and the audience loved it.
