“Vesperae solennes de confessore” dates from 1780, and is scored for SATB soloists and chorus, orchestra, and organ. It was the last of Mozart’s compositions while at Salzburg Cathedral. Audiences will be familiar with the wonderful aria “Laudate Dominum”, in which the choir joins the soprano soloist for the Gloria.

“Exsultate, Jubilate” is a gem among solo soprano works. Composed in 1772-73 during a run of his opera “Lucio Silla”, it might be seen as almost a sideline among Mozart’s prodigious output, but has justifiably achieved great acclaim. The “Alleluia” is especially beautiful.

The Coronation Mass is one of Mozart’s 17 such settings. Although relatively short, and thus qualifies as a “missa brevis”, it contains all the elements of the Ordinary. It was composed in 1779 and was, as far as can be ascertained, first performed at the coronation of Francis II as Holy Roman Emperor in 1792
